Trekking in the Italian Alps with breathtaking scenery

Rifugio Dorigoni, a traditional mountain hut owned by the local mountaineering society, is located high in the Val di Saènt, one of the most beautiful and best-preserved valleys in the Stelvio National Park and the whole of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range. It lies at a height of 2,436 m, on a rocky ledge in an open, sunny position.

The Cascate di Saènt waterfalls, the Pra di Saènt with its dairy and friendly marmots, the Sentiero dei Larici Monumentali footpath, the nature walk to the Sternai lakes and the high altitude landscape of glaciers such as the Careser and the panoramic summits such as the Cima Rossa and the Cima Sternai are just some of the exclusive attractions of one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps.
The Rifugio is reached from the valley by footpath 106, starting from the Colèr car park.

How to get there: Continue for 200 m after Malga Stablasolo, where a turning on the right offers the option to take the path to the Saènt waterfalls. It adds an extra 10 minutes but it is well worth it!
This path passes over bridges and through woodland to the foaming waters of the famous waterfalls. Otherwise, continue to Malga Stablet, where the path properly begins. After crossing the Prà di Saènt meadow, with its distinctive malga, continue to Malga Vecla where the footpath gains the name “Sentiero degli Alpinisti”, or the Mountaineers’ Footpath.

The steepest and most exposed section of the path begins here, which requires a bit more care (2,100 m). Continue on the western bank of the Rabbies river, through a landscape featuring alpenroses and marmots, until you reach the Rifugio.

Rifugio Dorigoni is the starting and finishing point for beautiful high-level walks, such as the path to the Sternai lakes (themed path from the Stelvio National Park) and many others which can be viewed here
