An easy and evocative trail that perfectly combines breathtaking natural landscapes with sites of significant historical and ethnographic value.
Difficulty: easy
Length: 4.6 km
Duration: 1 hour 36 minutes
Elevation gain: 226 m
Descent: 206 m
Start and end point: Plan parking area
From the parking area in Plan (1,252 m), follow the road on foot in the direction of the “Venetian Sawmill”. After crossing the second bridge on the left, you’ll reach the historic Venetian sawmill “dei Bègoi.” Near the bridge, a new trail begins, running alongside the rushing Rabbiés stream on its orographic right side, leading to the area called “Ramoni al Còler” (note: this initial section of the trail may not appear on older maps).
You’ll arrive at the Còler plain (1,380 m), home to picturesque traditional farmhouses (masi) and the educational play area “Il Gioco del Parco.” From here, take the trail on the left following signs for “Malghe Fratte.” The path climbs through spruce woods until it reaches Malga Fratte Bassa (1,482 m). From the pasture in front of the hut, you’ll enjoy a wide view over much of the Rabbi Valley.
From there, descend along the forest road (with the option to shorten the route by taking trails that cut through the switchbacks or by following the path toward the Suspension Bridge over the Ragaiolo waterfall). Once at the Ragaiolo stream, follow the road to the left toward the sawmill for about 100 meters, then take the small trail on the right, which leads back to the main road, just 300 meters from the parking lot.
As an alternative, from the cross in front of Malga Fratte Bassa, a quicker path descends directly to the Venetian sawmill “dei Bègoi.” From there, return the same way as you came.
